Ok, this may not be for everyone, unless you are a fan of Mad Men, the HBO show, you may not be interested at all. but if you are a fan, you would know what I am talking about
Don n Peggy had the most beautiful platonic relationship that sees beyond traumas and beauty and scars
“Do I have to do it?” Peggy asks Don in one of the earlier episodes of season 1 when Don asks her to seduce or interest Pete n that is the undercurrent of their personalities.
They go through life, asking this pertinent question all along, in their relationship, intricacies of their work and don’t get it wrong! they both love what they do, but they have a certain indifference that’s so deep seated.
Don and Peggy see each other, they really do, maybe they both have the same affliction, the same curse of being uncomfortable in their identities yet clinging on it.
Peggy- Don’s slow dance in season 7 is my favorite moment of theirs, at that moment, Don is her Parent, lover, friend, soulmate, there is no agenda, no underlying feelings, just a lot of presence
Their connection is far more sacred n Intimate than any romantic relationship they both ever had.
This also brings to my mind, the changing nature of everything that’s beautiful. I have always had problem with “I will always love you “kind of statements, how can anyone say that?
Love is organic and too real too last forever, just like real flower do wilt but plastic ones don’t.. anything that lasts forever is not real
Don and Peggy’s connection keeps transforming, evolving and changing, it's not love respect or fondness always.
There are phases of disgust, anger, competition and so much more and may be this changing nature of human connection makes their relationship so beautiful.
